Martin Kesting. Photobook Release and Exhibition
A trip to the Himalayas and South East Asia to work on a book. It became a meditation on transience and mortality. Inner and outer journeys in four chapters: Circling Around Places of Power, Transition Rites, Politics and Religion, Drama and Martial Arts.
The book mixes photographs of street situations, rituals, portrait, and landscape with staged photography and collage. The text mixes essay and travelogue, comments and quotes.
The self-published book will comprise 108 signed copies with an additional four hand bound copies with handmade pigment prints.
With this exhibition the artist group tunnel19 opens its new exhibition space tunnel19 | studio.

Eine Reise in die Himalayas und nach Südostasien, um an einem Buch zu arbeiten. Es wurde eine Kontemplation über Vergänglichkeit und Sterblichkeit. Innere und äußere Reisen in vier Kapiteln: das Umrunden von Kraftorten. Übergangsriten. Politik und Religion. Drama und Kampfkunst.
Im Buch mischen sich Fotografien von Straßensituationen, Ritualen, Porträts und Landschaften mit inszenierter Fotografie und Collage. Der Text besteht aus Essay und Reisebericht, Kommentaren und Zitaten.
Das Buch wird in einer Auflage von 108 signierten sowie vier handgebundenen Exemplaren mit Pigmentdrucken selbst veröffentlicht.
Mit dieser Ausstellung eröffnetet die Künstlergruppe tunnel19 ihren neuen Ausstellungsraum tunnel19 | studio.
Martin Kesting lives and works in Berlin Neukölln. In his sculptures and installations, found objects and materials formed by the elements are often combined with photographs and text. He is interested in transience, intermediate states, traces and structures. For several years he has worked on a long term series about Berlin in which he uses, among other things, excavated WWII bomb debris. He exhibits since 2014, publishes photographs in magazines and is a member of the Berlin artist group tunnel19.
Martin Kesting lebt und arbeitet in Berlin Neukölln. In seinen Skulpturen und Installationen verbinden sich gefundene Objekte und von den Elementen geformte Materialien mit Fotografien und manchmal auch Texten. Ihn interessieren Vergänglichkeit, Zwischenzustände, Spuren und Strukturen. Seit einigen Jahren arbeitet er an einer Berliner Langzeitserie u.a. mit ausgegrabenem Bombenschutt. Er stellt seit 2014 aus, veröffentlicht Fotos in Magazinen und ist Mitglied der Berliner Künstlergruppe tunnel19.
